Perspiration is the enemy to the finish on your eyeglass frames whether metal or plastic.  First wet the frame, then using a good soap, such as non-lotion dish soap or non-lotion liquid hand soap, suds them up.  Rinse thoroughly under plenty of cold to tepid (lukewarm) running water.  Never use hot water this could ruin the coating on the lenses as well as deteriorate the plastics in the frame (extreme temperatures are very hard on eyeglasses).

The drying process can be a little difficult without the proper towel.  However, a good quality cotton towel would work fine, if it is free of fabric softeners.  A soft toothbrush can be used to clean the nose pads and the arms of the pads.  On a rimless frame a Q-tip can be used to clean the lenses around the connecting parts.  Note, the soft silicone nose pads as well as other types of pads should be replaced periodically as they become discolored.  Oftentimes the temple covers can be replaced if they are too old to clean up properly.  Pads and temple covers are available for a nominal fee.

After the frame is cleaned and dried, spray the lenses with an optical quality anti-reflective safe lens cleaner.  The best towel for cleaning the lenses would be a micro fiber cloth specially made for cleaning eyeglasses lenses.  Caution!  Fabric softeners make the cloth oily and non- absorbent and quickly transfers oily properties to the lens.  Sometimes a good quality non-lotion tissue can be used, however they can be somewhat linty.   Thanks to technology most lenses are tough enough to handle the fibers from tissues just fine.

The other problem is hairspray.  If soap and water doesn’t remove it then come in so that we can help you get it off.  The best way to handle hairspray is to move the glasses out of its path.  Then wait until the hair spray around your ears has dried.
